Verz Opion Empty
PostSubject: Verz Opion   Verz Opion EmptySun Jan 08, 2012 3:56 am

Today's card that I feel like needs a particular mentioning is from a new archtype called Verz. It is a duel terminal archtype that is related to the Steelswarm, which is a sub-archtype of the Verz. They revolve a lot around XYZ summoning among a few other things. There are two XYZ monsters of this archtype that are pretty cool. The first one is Verz Bahamut, which allows you to take control of an opponents monster by discarding a material and a Verz or Steelswarm monster from your hand. I won against a dark world deck by jacking a Grapha. But there's one monster that is even better then this one, and it is known as Verz Opion.

First of all, the requirements to summon him is easy if you're running the right cards; he only requires 2 level 4 Verz or Steelswarm monsters. He has 2550 attack points, meaning he can run over stardust. Once per turn you can detach a material from your deck for any "infestation" spell or trap card. At the moment that effect is kind of limited in scope due to the lack of "infestation" spells and traps, although there are probably more in the most recent duel terminal in OCG "Oborous, Wicked Dragon of Destruction!", that have not been revealed yet although probably will this month. If some really good ones come out then this ability could get particularly effective later on.

However, it's other effect is what makes this card deserve a mention. While this card has at least one material attached to you, neither player can special summon level 5 or higher monsters. This effect stops Judgment Dragon, it stops Dark Armed Dragon, it prevents Gorz from coming out, it ruins Black Luster Soldier, and it completely and utterly ruins decks that rely heavily on synchro summons. This is similar to fossil Dyna, although it has a few differences that make it nasty in it's own unique way. First of all, it possess an high attack power, which means it will be hard to summon a monster that can get this monster off the field, especially while it's preventing special summons. Secondly, if you're running a pure Verz or Steelswarm deck, then his special summon prevention will only hurt your opponent and not you. Verz rely on XYZ summoning, which use Ranks, not levels, which means the effect does not hurt them at all. Steelswarm rely on tribute summoning and recycling the monsters to tribute later, which means those high level monsters typically are not special summoned anyway. As long as you have a material on this card, you're going to have a huge field advantage. And this guy is simple to bring out; you can easily do it on the first turn. You probably shouldn't get rid of the last material to search for another card though; be careful with that effect, since it needs a material to screw with special summoning.

Ultimately, just having this card out on the field can win you the game very quickly. This card isn't going to reach the TCG for awhile, but I'll be eagerly awaiting the day that it does reach the U.S. By then, I'm sure they'll be even more way to use this card effectively (searching for good infection cards), which will allow for it to unleash it's true potential. And it's nasty enough already.
